One of the most expressive and versatile instruments, the saxophone is increasingly becoming an accepted part of the mainstream in classical music in repertoire from Bach to Birtwistle. sonic.art were unanimous audience favourites in the finals of the Landor Competition 2007 and their performance at Cambridge Summer Music Festival in 2008 was one of the most discussed performances that summer. One of the most talented young saxophone quartets on the international circuit today.
Artists:
The ensemble sonic.art was founded in 2005 by its members Ruth Velten, Annegret Schmiedl, Martin Posegga and Alexander Doroshkevich. The members met in Berlin where they all studied at the University of Arts, Berlin and the H. Eisler Hochschule für Musik, Berlin as well as at the Cologne and Basel music academies. They all perform as soloist and chamber musicians and have played with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ensemble Modern/Frankfurt Main and the DSO Berlin, among others.
