A glittering evening in the stunning surroundings of Rudding Park featuring leading soloists and one of the world’s greatest orchestras in a rare Harrogate appearance.
The programme comprises arias and duets from famous and not-so-famous operas.
The concert will finish by 8.30pm, enabling concertgoers to picnic within the grounds of Rudding Park or pre-book a special ‘Opera’ dinner. A complimentary drink will be served in the interval.

The Hallé is Britain’s longest-established permanent professional symphony orchestra, founded in Manchester by Sir Charles Hallé in 1858. The Hallé has been performing classical music in Manchester, around Britain and abroad for more than 150 years. The Hallé’s Music Director is Sir Mark Elder CBE. Other famous principal conductors have included Hans Richter, Sir Thomas Beecham, Sir Malcolm Sargent, Sir John Barbirolli and Kent Nagano.
Justin Doyle read music as a choral scholar at King’s College, Cambridge during which time he held conducting posts with the University Musical Society orchestras. He was recently awarded second prize in the prestigious Cadaqués Orchestra Conducting Competition from over 180 conductors worldwide. He was the first to be awarded a Conductor Fellowship with the BBC Singers, and until July was Artistic Director of Ryedale Festival, where he increased the audience and introduced many innovations. He has broadcast many times on BBC Radio 3 including at the BBC Proms and this season conducts performances of Così fan Tutte and The Escape from the Seraglio at Opera North.
Mary Plazas is one of the UK’s leading and best-loved sopranos. She made her operatic debut in 1992 with ENO and since then has gone on to sing roles including Mimi, Anne Trulove, Donna Elvira, Cio-Cio-San (in Anthony Minguella’s memorable ENO production), Nedda and Fiordiligi for companies including The Royal Opera, Bayerisches Staatsoper, Opera North, Bregenz Festival, New Israeli Opera, Glyndebourne and The Opera Comique, Paris. Her many concert appearances include performances at the BBC Proms, Wigmore Hall, Aldeburgh, Cheltenham and Brighton festivals.
John Hudson is one of Britain’s most powerful and dramatic tenors. A long-standing principal for the English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera and frequent guest for opera companies worldwide, John is also a regular concert performer at many of the major international venues, was a guest of Lesley Garrett on her BBC2 show, ‘Viva La Diva!’ and recently released two successful solo CDs.

A complimentary drink will be served in the interval. After the concert, guests may picnic within the grounds of Rudding Park, or in the event of inclement weather picnics may be eaten within the venue. Guests may bring their own picnics or order them from £20 per couple. Alternatively you can pre-book a special Opera 2-course menu at £17 per person.
