Programme:
Songs by Schubert, Brahms, R Strauss and Barber
One of the most gifted soprano talents to appear in a generation, accompanied by the Northern Aldborough Festival’s ‘accompanist in residence’ Simon Lepper. Her programme, which marks the centenary of Samuel Barber’s birth and 150 years since Mahler’s birth, also includes items from her award-winning Schubert recital for Sony Records and many other beautiful soprano songs.
Artists:
Elizabeth Watts was selected by YCAT in 2004, won the 2006 Kathleen Ferrier Prize, the 2007 Outstanding Young Artist Award at the Cannes ‘MIDEM Classique Awards’ and gained international recognition at the 2007 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, winning the Rosenblatt Recital Song Prize and selection for BBC Radio 3’s New Generation Artists Scheme. With a voice described by International Record Review as “one of the most beautiful Britain has produced in a generation” the critical success of her first recording of Schubert lieder, as part of an exclusive contract for SONY Red Seal, has now established her as “one of the brightest new talents” (The Independent). The recording was Gramophone magazine’s ‘Editor’s Choice’ in February 2009.
Simon Lepper was educated at King’s College Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music. Simon has recently been appointed as Professor of Piano Accompaniment at the Royal College of Music, London. He has performed with many of the world’s most renowned singers and is an official accompanist for the BBC Singer of the World Rosenblatt Song Prize and Yehudi Menuhin Violin Competition and plays for Thomas Quasthoff’s masterclasses at the Verbier Festival.
