The Heath Quartet was formed in 2002 at the Royal Northern College of Music, under the guidance of Dr. Christopher Rowland. Over the last year they have studied with Alasdair Tait at the Reina Sofia in Madrid, were selected for representation by YCAT (May 2008), and last September took up their appointment as Junior Fellows at the RNCM.
Haydn's 'Frog' Quartet the last of so called Prussian Quartets, was composed in 1787. The name 'Frog' is derived from the alternating of strings on the same note, (bariolage), used in the last movement.
Thomas Ades born in London , 1 March 1971- is a British composer, pianist and conductor. He achieved a double starred first in 1992 at King's College, Cambridge, studying with Alexander Goehr and Robin Holloway. He has been Artistic Director of the 'other' Aldeburgh Festival since 1999.
Mendelssohn's String Quartet No 6 in F minor Op.80 was composed in 1847 and was his last major composition. The piece was composed after the death of his sister Fanny and is a deeply emotional piece, reflecting the intense personal anguishh of his life at that time.
