Richard Rodgers' contributions to the musical theatre of his day were extraordinary, and his influence on the musical theatre of today and tomorrow is legendary. His career spanned more than six decades, and his hits ranged from the silver screens of Hollywood to the bright lights of Broadway, London and beyond. He was the recipient of countless awards, including Pulitzers, Tonys, Oscars, Grammys and Emmys.
He wrote more than 900 published songs, and forty Broadway musicals. Some of the most famous musicals came through his collaborations with first Lorenz Hart and then Oscar Hammerstein II, including such perennial favorites as On Your Toes (1936), Babes In Arms (1937), The Boys From Syracuse (1938), Too Many Girls (1939), Higher And Higher (1940), Pal Joey (1940), And By Jupiter (1942), Oklahoma! (1943), Carousel (1945), South Pacific (1949), The King And I (1951), Flower Drum Song (1958) and The Sound Of Music (1959). In 1998 Rodgers & Hammerstein were cited by Time Magazine and CBS News as among the 20 most influential artists of the 20th century.
Sally Burgess (Mezzo-soprano) " The lady is superb, whether she turns her artistry to opera, jazz or Sondheim". A view that sums up the remarkable career of this accomplished mezzo soprano who offers a versatility and diversity of styles unsurpassed by any other British singer today.
Sally Burgess has made some of the most exciting operatic roles her own, having sung with most of the major Opera Companies and Orchestras throughout the UK and internationally.
Sally was nominated for ‘Best Actress in a Musical' at the Olivier Awards and performances with the BBC Concert Orchestra of On the Town and Cabaret at the Royal Festival Hall, London have further expanded her reputation as an artist of limitless talents.
Neal Thornton studied Physics at Balliol College, Oxford before coming to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music. An interest in jazz music gradually gave way to a full time commitment to it and Neal now plays with many top musicians in London's jazz venues as well as teaching. Neal's regular performances include cabaret accompaniment for many singers, duo concerts with guitarist Jim Mullen, as well as his weekly spot at the Soho Pizzeria with "Men from Up North".
