James BarraletJames Barralet was winner of the 2007 Abstract Securities Landor Records competition, and will shortly be recording his debut solo CD. James began playing the cello at the age of five and was winner of the 2003 Royal Philharmonic Society’s Julius Isserlis scholarship, which enabled him to study for three years with Thomas Demenga, at Basel Hochschule für Musik. James previously studied with Hannah Roberts at the RNCM where he graduated with a first class honours degree, a professional performance diploma and a post-graduate performer’s diploma.

Sophia RahmanSophia Rahman studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School with Peter Norris and Louis Kentner. After taking a first class honours degree in English at King’s College London, she completed her studies at the Royal Academy of Music with Alexander Kelly and Malcolm Martineau. As a concerto soloist Sophia has toured with the Scottish Ensemble, performing works by Mozart and Shostakovich and she has played at all the London recital halls, as well as many across Europe, including the Concertgebouw, Kölner Philharmonie and Musikverein, Wien.

The evening will start with a drinks reception at 6.45pm in Rudding Hotel. Please park in the Hotel car park and make your way to the reception area. The concert will commence at 7.30pm. The interval will last about 30 minutes during which canapes and drinks will be served in the hotel. The concert will finish around 10pm.
