An hour of divine music from Renaissance Madrigals from Italy by Monteverdi and Gesualdo Sacred Music from Germany and Sacred and Secular Music from Elizabethan England

Cantorelli is a group of eight singers from Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, with an extensive repertoire of a capella music from 15th century Europe, to the present day. This programme includes madrigals by Monteverdi and Gesualdo, who were the ‘avant-garde’ in 16th Century Italy and influenced musical styles throughout Europe, including music by the German composer, Johann Schein, whose ‘Israelbrünnlein’ (Little streams of Israel) is a collection of sacred madrigals. As well as Italian madrigals, Cantorelli will sing a selection from ‘Israelbrünnlein’ and madrigals and motets from English Elizabethan composers, including Thomas Weelkes, John Wilbye and Peter Philips, who were also influenced by the Italian style.

Cantorelli came together as a group 12 years ago. Since then they have performed a wide range of a capella music from medieval Europe to the present day, in concerts mainly in the north of England. For many years Cantorelli has also worked with Anna Friman, of the group Trio Medieval and John Potter at York University.
